ILC International's role in working with high-performers

In today's world, many people use coaching tools in their everyday life. Entrepreneurs, top managers, and even young people are making the decision to turn to professional coaches for personal development, leadership growth and much more.

A big part of the coaching practice concentrates, quite naturally, on the so-called “high-performers''. ILC International has made its decision to focus particularly on the top tier of those people, because we believe in the positive ripple effect that this has on society at large. 

But, let’s not throw the phrase “high-performer” lightly and without explanation. Who is a high-performer and how do we recognise him/her in a crowd?

In a nutshell, a high performer is someone who does everything possible to achieve their goals. This type of person takes the initiative and focuses on improving their habits and behaviors in the workplace (as well as outside) in order to have a positive impact and utilize their strengths fully. In other words, they design themselves to “perform at a high standard” (based on the Oxford dictionary of “high performance”).

High-performers, be it people or organisations, ​​want one simple thing​: Better results.

That's why coaching itself is a great chance for them to achieve their main goal - realizing the potential they have in areas of their lives that matter. ​​High-performers make choices and take responsibility for their results. Taking responsibility for your results, whether in sports, life, career, relationships or else means consciously seeking developmental opportunities, feedback and guidance.

A high performer who lacks self-awareness and doesn’t invest in deliberate personal development usually continues to drive themselves towards more responsibilities, more work, more goals and to-do lists, not understanding that they will inevitably reach a glass ceiling and will stop progressing. That’s the moment when a large proportion of our clients turn to us. It, however, can be a strategic tool rather than a “fix me up tool” should one decide to look at it that way.

Coaching and accountability ​conversations are ​the most effective means of keeping high-performers focused on possibilities as well as a healthy and results oriented mindset. It’s not a panacea but it is an extremely useful addition to anyone’s success journey. 

We know that at times a clear-cut, independent review of your current position, trajectory, and strategies is beneficial, especially when dealing with stress, anxiety and pilling factors of influence that are outside of your control.

High performers are more likely to consistently go above and beyond in any field, which often leads to burnouts (emotional and physical). This can manifest in many different ways but as professionals we observe lack of motivation, lack of interest, loss of inspiration, feeling defeated, loss of meaning, etc. in people who are incredible human beings and need to spread their influence over the world rather than shrink it.  We help them to either not reach these states or use them as a stepping stone and resolve them.
